At Emerson School, we believe in providing a positive, safe learning environment for our students. We believe that if parents, teachers, students, and the entire school staff work together to provide this environment, we can successfully insure that each student reaches their full potential.
Our goal is to increase time on learning in every classroom and for every student. Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (PBIS) is one program we use to manage our classrooms and increase time on learning. This program focuses on recognizing and reinforcing positive behavior in our classrooms. We emphasize the strengths and positive behaviors of our students. Some schools may focus on punishment and strict discipline, although we know how to implement strict procedures when needed for safety, we also know there is a significant body of research indicating that a focus on positive behavior and addressing a student’s strengths produces much more positive results. We like to say – Emerson is a Positive Behavior School! We hope you share this philosophy and invite you to learn more and become involved in our approach.
We believe this program helps insure a safe, caring, effective learning environment is provided for our students. Our teachers and staff are trained to implement the program. As a result, we have consistent implementation and integration throughout our school. We encourage you to join us as we focus on the positive behaviors and strengths of our students.
